What Are Crypto Token Approvals
A token approval is permission for a smart contract to spend a specified token from your wallet. It commonly appears when you use decentralized applications.
Connecting a wallet and approving token spending are different actions. A connection lets a website interact with your wallet interface. A spending approval can give a contract continuing authority over a token.
Think of it as authorizing a service to collect a payment, with a spending limit attached. Some approvals allow a limited amount. Others grant a very large allowance.
Before approving, check which token is involved, which contract will receive permission, and how much it can spend. A familiar website design does not prove the contract is safe.
Disconnecting from a website generally does not revoke an existing on-chain token approval. Revoking is a separate action and usually involves a network transaction and fee.
Revocation can remove future spending authority under that approval, but it cannot undo funds already transferred. It also does not fix a stolen recovery phrase.
For beginners, a wallet popup is a decision point. Read it carefully instead of treating every prompt as a routine login.
Understanding what you authorize is just as important as protecting your password.
